We entered the show ring for the first time in 1987 in a large competition at LANA in Yakima, Washington. Our two juvenile females, Creme de Chocolat and Somora, were entered in a class of 33 llamas and placed at the top of their class winning first and second place ribbons. Creme de Chocolat went on to be named Reserve Grand Champion Female for the show.

From that day until now, llamas from Sugarloaf have continued to capture top awards in halter classes, performance classes, and fleece judging, even though we rarely show our animals ourselves.

We are a large "hands-on" operation without a ranch manager, so unfortunately you do not often see us at llama shows and sales. Our animals, however, have been well represented at llama events by our clients who have taken home many Champion and Reserve Grand Champion awards.

The list of winners is long as llamas purchased from Sugarloaf and/or sired by our sires are frequently shown with outstanding success by their proud new owners. Offspring of Sugarloaf's Mucho Macho, Gold Rush and Talisman have scores of halter class Grand Champions to their credit.

Here are just a few halter class winners:

  • Gold Glitter, a Gold Rush daughter owned by Koenig's Wool -n- Fir Farm, has captured first in her class and was named Grand Champion at numerous shows over the past two years including the Ag Fest Gold, the Rogue River Gold, and the Western Regionals.
  • A Gold Rush Get of Sire entry took first place at the Oregon State Fair.
  • Tres Bonne Amie, a Mucho Macho daughter, holds a First Place and Reserve Champion at COLA, a First at Oregon State Fair, and a First and Reserve Champion at WILA.
  • Tingalaya, a Talisman daughter, took first in her class, Grand Champion Female and Reserve Best of Show of all females at the Harvest Festival.
  • Mucho Supremo, a Mucho Macho son owned by Koenig's Wool -n- Fir Farm, was Reserve Grand Champion at the Oregon State Fair and at COLA, first at the Ag Fest Gold, and placed second in the adult, heavy wooled male category at the 1999 Western Regionals.
  • Sugarloaf's Solid Gold, a Gold Rush son, purchased by East Fork Ranch was awarded the top honor of Grand Champion Heavy Wooled Male at the 1999 Western Regionals, along with a coveted Top Ten award at the 1999 Nationals.
  • Muchacho Magnifico, a Mucho Macho son owned by Koenig's Wool-n-Fir Farm, was Reserve Best of Show and Grand Champion Heavy Wooled Male at the Harvest Llama Show and COLA
  • Strike it Rich, a Gold Rush son, was first in his class at the Rogue River Gold and at the Western Regionals.
